Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/07/2018

Number: 1

While our hummingbird feeder has been up since April 22nd, there has been no activity until today (May 7th). Male Ruby-throat flew into our backyard (5:56 pm) and checked out our orange Baltimore Oriole jam feeder first, then flew over towards our back dining-room widow. He was no doubt attracted to a pot of red Poinsettias (yes, still looking great since last December) quite visible from the outside. In fact, he did not even go near the actual feeder. Perhaps this was his first foray into our yard and he missed it. Hopefully he discovers it on his next fly by.
