I just noticed the Asclepias syriaca (Common milkweed) may 3rd and it's about 5"-6" tall. I noticed the Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly milkweed) the same day but it's only about 2" tall. I have not spotted any monarchs yet but have seen several swallowtails.
Also of interest, I have a small butterfly garden that hundreds of butterflies, including monarchs, visit each year. Their main food source is Eupatorium rugosum (Chocolate Joe-Pye Weed). They absolutely love it.
