I did not see any monarchs during my 11am look around the pastures. It was sunny, 73 degrees F, still, and with 50% humidity. I noted that some of the milkweed is still flowering, but also there are many plants producing seed pods. Sometimes a single plant has both flowers and seed pods on offshoot stems.
Going about later in the afternoon I saw 4 faded-winged male monarchs. By 2pm it was partly cloudy, 81 degrees F, breezy, and with 44% humidity. At one point two of the monarchs were disputing who had the nectar rights to our potted butterfly bush. They seemed to both get some good chances to drink between scuffles. This is a photo of one of them getting a much-needed drink on a very warm day.
