Sightings report image

Date: 05/05/2018

Number: 3

At around 12:30pm it was 75 degrees F, cloudy with some sun at times, breezy, with 63% humidity. I again saw a faded-winged male and a bright-winged male ~ both nectaring and flying over the milkweed areas. Then I realized that there was not just one bright-winged monarch, but two ~ another newborn was flying around and he too liked nectaring from the mystery wildflowers! And that led to a scuffle as the first one spotted the interloper on "his" flowers ~ a bit of a chase ensued, but in the end I could see both still sailing around and getting plenty of chances to nectar from these tiny flowers. The older fellow just continued to enjoy the 'old-fogy' prairie plantains. It was such a surprise and delight to see another newborn!
