When I saw an orange butterfly in the distance I walked into that general direction. I stood for a while hoping to see it at rest when it flew over me. I can confidently say it was 100% a monarch. After that it flew off so I was never able to get a photo.
Some milkweed plants are just starting to come up in the area. Most native plants are a bit behind schedule due to our late snowfall, but things are growing quickly.
I work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, so I'm very familiar with monarch ID.
