Amusing and unusual visit from a Sandhill Crane today. Usually, they are timid souls, strolling in pairs, through our west pasture at a very, cautious, distance. Today at 6:30 pm, a solo Sandhill approached one of our bird feeders, with a flock of turkeys. I've never seen a Sandhill travel with a flock of turkeys :) It looked like the turkeys were leading the parade, telling the Sandhill Crane, "Follow us, we'll show you the way." We've never had a Sandhill Crane close to our home / buildings. He or she is certainly welcome. It will be interesting to observe how long this Sandhill continues to travel with the turkeys; and makes one curious about the Sandhill's circumstances, how the transition to becoming a member of the turkey flock occurred.
