First monarch sighting at my Waystation this morning, May 15, female, ovipositing on poke milkweed. Thank goodness for that stuff, cuz other milkweeds are barely breaking ground. Poke is nearly a foot tall, tho.
I am at 43 degrees north latitude.
As a note of interest, a naturalist at the Schlitz Audubon Center on the northeast side of Milwaukee spotted one there yesterday, May 14, and photographed it “nectaring†on a hummingbird feeder, for lack of any open flowers other than spring ephemerals.
