About 6:20pm as I was watching my daughters soccer game, it flew by about 15 feet off the ground, looked fresh, (I collected 14 eggs last year on May 17th 2017) but this is the earliest I’ve ever seen one. My old earliest was May 21st. This spot is about 8 miles south of my house. My milkweed is all about 3-4 inches at the tallest in my pastures and up to a foot tall on the south side of the house. Showy, common, butterfly, prairie, swamp, and poke are all popping up. 86 and sunny with a south wind at 5-10mph today and the 15 day forecast looks excellent for monarchs. It flew off into a field north of the game so I wasn’t able to snap a picture or tell the sex.
