Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/11/2018

Number: 8

I found 8 4th instar monarchs cats feeding on tropical milkweed in my flower bed. I rescued them and placed them in a butterfly cage with potted milkweed plants. They ate voraciously and started to go 'walk-about' the next day. All 8 pupated, but unfortunately 2 had been infested with tachnids and were lost. The remaining 6 successfully morphed and flew away on May 16.
