Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 05/20/2018

Number: 2

Monarch Waystation #271 reports 2 second instar larvae found on common milkweeds while culling some common milkweed out of a crowded front bed. One larva was blackened and dead, the other resting on another leaf's underside, on a different plant. No other larvae seen on common milkweeds. Other milkweeds were not searched for larvae while weeding the rest of the front yard. The batch of eggs reported previously did not result in noticeably larvae, they have disappeared. Paper wasps are commonly patrolling, so any larvae have to be lucky to stay alive.
