Habitat

Number: 1

Our habitat is certified via NWF, all our migrating birds have returned, the Orioles are eating oranges, hummingbirds enjoying their nectar feeders and natural nectar is appearing a little more with each warmer day: dogwood, wild cherry, wild apple trees, wild honeysuckle is starting to bloom on the northwest ridge ravine going down to the north branch of the creek. The red breasted grosbeaks are singing, following me through the yards and consuming 50 lbs of sunflower seeds a week. There is a pair of Pilated woodpeckers playing and flying together along the south branch of the creek by our south ridge road. Red honeysuckle and viburnum are in bloom, as are the bleeding hearts. The yellow foxglove will bloom in mid June, along with Walker's Low Catnip and penstemons. Chipmunk families are playing and running back and forth between bird feeders and snags. Fawns will soon be calling (they sound like baby goats) and in the evenings the frog chorus is throughout the property. There's nothing more wonderful than a forest filled with frog song. Happy spring.
