Saddened to report to you that destruction of Robin nests is high here this Spring due to predators.
This past week we have seen three nests pulled down and, in yesterday's case, a Red squirrel is responsible.
That animal was harassing the chicks in the nest and we and the adult Robin shoo'd it away
several times before nightfall.
This morning, the nest is empty and one chick is dead on the ground. cannot see the other two but have to believe they were taken by a cat or the Squirrel once out the nest.
There is one nest left in our wood shed with at least two healthy chicks which we will try to protect as much as possible.
There seems to be more red Squirrels around here this Spring.
