Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 06/24/2018

Number: 12

I was climbing Mt Adams between Pikers Peak and the summit above 12k feet and small monarchs were whisking by at over 20mph taking advantage of the laminar flow just above the surface of the snow as they wrapped around the summit dome of Mt Adams about 15:00 on a sunny day. It felt like they were flying upwind at head level but I doubt that. Watching them use their wings to navigate at these tremendous speeds was amazing. They were wishing by in trickles. Just one or two at a time and only in one little area.
