Female monarch was feeding on Butterfly Weed and then ovipositing like crazy on Common Milkweed in patch adjacent to butterfly / pollinator garden. Then a male arrived patrolling the edge of the property until he spotted the ovipositing female. A long chase began between the sole male and female with periods of courting behavior.as they flew in fluttering spirals around each other. This went on for a couple of hours in the late afternoon. Quite entertaining, he was persistent but she was resistant as far as I observed.
