I was just up near the Illnois Beach State Park North Unit today and saw half a dozen monarchs in the space of a couple of minutes - just flying around randomly. Lots of milkweed of different varieties. At the section of park where I was, there was A. viridiflora, A. syriaca, and A. tuberosa. (Short green MW, Common, and Butterfly.) I was out clearing sweet white clover from the dunes, so wasn’t looking for eggs or catts, but I did see other butterflies as well, along with a hummingbird clearwing moth, which was a first for our site.
And I’m seeing them almost daily in my home garden, which is kind of remarkable, too.
