I've been a monarch lover/ midwife/nanny for years. I usually hold overnight those monarchs eclosing late in the day or for weather reasons. Spring monarchs are okay with being held overnight. But fall monarchs are impatient & unusually active right away. Today, I released 4 very active monarchs who wouldn't settle down. I've wondered if they have another ability to sense it's time to migrate independent of outdoor clues.
