My ongoing butterfly/pollinator habitat project has gotten some new host plants this year.
-Paw Paw tree seedlings: 12. Two I bought, and the rest were from planting seeds from fruit I ate.
-Aristolochia durior: 1 vine
-Another spice bush and a sassafras seedling.
-2 citrus plants in pots.
-Also 2 new blueberries.
-There is a large crop of fennel, dill, and rue.
-And I have seeded a section of the vegetable garden with Asclepias curassavica, which is growing well
-Additional A. incarnata plants have been planted
-A. exaltata was growing in the shade, but I think the deer nibbled it down.
-Nettles; spiderwort
-Many new nectar plants as well are attracting lots of butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds: (i.e zinneas, several new salvias, lavenders, cardinal flower, blue eyed grass, rudbeckia, echinacea, ironweed, mountain mint, turtlehead, bee balm)
-There is also a successful mason bee house
-Other new trees: northern red oak, washington hawthorn, grey dogwood, new jersey tea, arrowwood viburnum, witch hazel, red cedar
