Sightings report image

Date: 08/12/2018

Number: 41

Sunday Aug 12th 2018 4:35 - 5:45 pm
at Point Pelee National Park
Observed 41 Monarchs, 38 of them from East & West sides of The TIP journeying south out across Lake Erie.
Some left from a foot above the sand then gained altitude; others already at 100-150' high continued out over the lake.
Around 5:30 pm the majority of those flitting about turned around & returned to the mainland trees.
Leaving The Tip & on the walk back 3 were observed flitting about the trees along West Path. No clusters were seen. Most appeared faded except the last one seen in the trees was fresh looking with a triangle (possible bird predation) cut out of a hind wing.
A beautiful blue sky Sun shiny day of 27°c with a light North Easterly wind. They're fast! So fast!
