My volunteer monarch monitoring at housing development revealed 3 1st instars on randomly sampled common milkweed stand measuring 10' by 3.' The larvae were all on the same decrepit-looking common milkweed. All of the young shoots had more aphids than did the tall milkweed in this instance.
