Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/19/2018

Number: 11

All of our feeders are incorporated with small tree branches and some have Clematis Ragoichi vines entwined in the branches, for additional nectar, cover, and perching. Our small guests spend a great deal of time, perching, preening, watching on these branches next to their favorite feeder. There are presently 19 active feeders in the habitat. When it rains they can be found on their favorite perches, staying dry, under the eve.

A fig tree spends summer outside, on the patio step. The fig tree is a favorite place to perch, as is a dogwood tree by the front door. There are often several hummers within the leaves, of these two trees. They provide good cover, and launching sites.

There are several groups of 4 or 5 hummers that like to fly in formation around the habitat. Numerous chase games, aerial displays, whizzing by our heads, and knees-when they are flying low, lol.
