In a large (1 acre +)field of common milkweed, two of us spent an hour observing Monarchs, many of which were on the few remaining milkweed flowers. There were at least 16 Monarchs about, and many times there were 7-8 on a few plants in close proximity. The attached photo shows one in flight, while 2 others are hanging off flowers immediately below.
