August 22nd 2018 on the east side of The Tip at Point Pelee National Park between 12:25 & 1:00 pm observed about 2 dozen Monarchs either flitting about or roosting in various trees & on vines. Did see a cluster of 3. Still a mix of fresh & faded however most of the fresh had a tear to some extent. (After checking photos...(Noted that majority were male.
A few attempted to venture out south to cross Lake Erie but the strong 23 kph NW wind prevented them from doing so. The northerly component easily brought them into The Park (which was why I went to check out The Tip activity) but the westerly wind was too strong for them to fight to go across the lake.
East side was quite calm.
A cooler day with high of 23°c. Mostly cloudy.
