Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/23/2018

Number: 18

Redding, Ct. 8/23/18. Welcomed 3 or 4 migrants to my yard today, bringing my total to 18, as of this evening. There was quite a bit of nectaring going on at my various salvia plants, what's left of my rose campions, and even geraniums and impatiens. The migrants are easy to spot because they are unfamiliar with the homemade "weather shields" I cover my feeders with, and hesitate at first, and then get very curious. I use plastic funnels of 7 1/2" to 10" diameter, which rest on top of my first nature 16 and 32 ounce feeders, with a 14" looped zip tie thru the spout to allow hanging it up. It's a very economical way to protect feeders from the hot sun, heavy rain, and debri from overhead trees.
