Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/25/2018

Number: 20

Observed monarchs visiting my garden all day long in Apex, NC. Here is a picture of a caterpillar in my garden. On 08/24/2018 was the 1st time I observed females laying eggs on my tropical milkweed in my garden. I also observed females laying eggs today. This led me to carefully observe my tropical milkweed plants and I found many caterpillars of different sizes (instars). Today I observed a northern paper wasp eat a monarch caterpillar on a tropical milkweed. Upon further inspection, I found at least 6 separate monarch caterpillar remains from other predation.
