A lonely and bird-damaged Monarch, today; the only one seen in walking the breadth and width of a meadow. She landed on about 20 things before finding lunch on this clover. Last year clover was by far their (and most other's) favorite food; compared to last year, there is no clover this summer, which may be part of the reason for so very few butterflies in Maine.
