Virginia Living Museum participants in the VLM's annual NABA Butterfly Count along the Blue Ridge Parkway report monarchs sighted at Big Spy Overlook near milepost 26 [Red marker is at approximate location, the Overlook is not marked on this map like others are]. Museum staff member Patrycja Lawryniuk took this photo of a newly-emerged male that could barely fly. Cool temps in the 70s after a cold front came through earlier in the day kept it land bound
and we hoped its wings would stiffen up soon with the drier breezes and little sun left in the day.
