Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/03/2018

Number: 150

Strong winds appeared to hold a large number of adults in a sheltered area on our property for 2 days; they were clinging to pine trees. When the winds subsided the next day they left and many monarchs were observed flying in a southerly direction on that day, along the shoreline (estimate seeing 2-3 every minute). They were literally streaming by.
We have 2 stands of milkweed on the property that were covered in monarch caterpillars this season. The plants have been completely denuded.
