Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 09/04/2018

Number: 10

Spotted females and/or juveniles in gardens and open fields nectaring from hibiscus, gladiolas, cardinal flowers, jewel weed,Joe Pye weed, iron weed, salvia, and various tropical plants on display that I'm not familiar with (all of them shades of yellow and orange, one with tubular flowers). The hibiscus flowers seem to be a particular favorite. The number of hummingbirds has increased since I was last there on August 6. I'm pretty sure,by their behavior, that two hummers guarding flowers behind the conservatory are the same that were there August 6. They are probably juveniles, possibly siblings, since they seem fairly tolerant of each other.
