Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/05/2018

Number: 5

In spite of the fact that I still have two adult males, numbers have decreased since the last week of August. Starting the first week of June the hummingbirds were consuming roughly a quart of sugar water every two days. Now they're down to a quart in four days. This has been an unusual year, since about twice as many hummingbirds arrived in the spring and activity at the feeders all summer was the equivalent as to what I usually see only in the month of August. It seems that some of the females and juveniles have left before the males and I don't have the usual number of transients coming in yet.Normally population reduction doesn't begin until all the males are gone.
