Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/05/2018

Number: 3

about 10 ago I noticed 3 large beautiful green/black yellowish striped caterpillars on my parsley. I wanted to pick parsley for breakfast prepping and noticed that half of my parsley was gone. Watched them daily and saw they were constantly feeding on the plant and left only its skeleton behind. This afternoon I noticed that all the parsley is eaten up and now one caterpillar appeared on a neighboring dill plant. I have herb pots in the yard for many years and I never noticed it nor my herbs were damaged by caterpillars. So I was curious and learned that it was the large Monarch
butterfly caterpillar. I am wondering that I have these caterpillars around so late in summer. Never have seen them before on my herb plants though i still see adult Monarch's every day. Actually I have never seen so many Monarch's like this year. It's probably a good sign that the population is healthy and stable.
