Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/05/2018

Number: 6

With winds out of the north all day, we were seeing more hummingbird activity by afternoon. We had been seeing three with fairly consistent behavior, most likely a mother and two juveniles, based on repeated observations through the summer. There was a sudden increase in the number of visits to the feeders and the number and intensity of chases. The way that the hummingbirds approached the feeders (direction, choice of landing spots, preferred resting spot) also showed more variation. We couldn't really get an accurate count, since we have 4 feeders in each of these three zones around the house that can't be seen at the same time (by us or the birds), but I'm guessing that our usual count has doubled. We also saw one at the Lake Harriet rose garden.
