I have seen up to 8 at a time. I have also seen the Chrysalis in the pine tree. I have always hatched several or taken them to the elementary school to hatch. However, this year I have had one go into Chrysalis stage and never has hatched. Turned black but no butterfly and it has been 18 days. Also, I have found sever caterpillars dead on the ground and one on the side of the garage. I'm worried because I can't figure out why they are dying or not hatching.
