Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 09/04/2018

Number: 1

It's rare to see a Rufous hummingbird in our Sacramento-area backyard. Usually we might catch one or two sightings a year as they migrate to other climes. But this lovely female Rufous has spent the last several days sipping nectar from our Salvias as well as sugar water solution from our feeder. She jealously guards the area, chasing away the usual Anna's hummingbirds that make our garden their home year-round, as well as the warm-season Black-chinned hummers. Luckily we have a handful of feeders throughout the yard to keep the others well-fed. :)
