Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/07/2018

Number: 10

10 or more hummers nectared heavily from feeders and from black & blue salvias, Wendy's Wish salvia, Ember's Wish salvia and Firecrackers. Saw several hummers early in the morning and counted at least 10 in the evening. 1 hummer is an immature male and looks like some juveniles in the mix with adult females. This is most hummers we've seen during migration in 2 or 3 years. I think using only nectar feeders with bee guards is helping to keep the hummers attracted. We have an Oriole feeder out to keep bees and wasps busy. 2 hummers had a side-swipe collision but no injuries. Quitting time tonight was 7:55 compared to 7:54 the previous night and 7:53 the night before that. This is reverse of usual pattern of last sightings in the evening getting earlier. This little zippers are very entertaining.
