Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/07/2018

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #271 reports small male feeding in front yard this morning. Finally got binocs on it for field marks: striped throat, buffy sides, tiny tail spots. Nectared on 12+ blooms of Tithonia, then Lady in Red Salvia, about 9:33 am. Watched it from 10-10:07am do a circuit of Tithonia blooms to Salvia to Tropical milkweed. It then rested on a stalk of Lemon Queen Sunflower growing right next to Tithonia, preened, fecked its bill, began nectaring on Tithonia again until a passing car startled it away. @12:45 pm same bird repeated the Tithonia nectar circuit and added the neighbor's Lantana.
