Monarch Waystation #271 reports a 5th instar caterpillar feeding on a purple milkweed seedpod in the front yard. I've seen them feed on the pods of Butterflyweed, Common and Swamp milkweeds before, but this is the first time I remember seeing one try the purple ones. Smooth on the outside, spiny on the inside, crunchy all the way through! It didn't break through the spiny side, later abandoned the pod.
