Number: 1

This male had eclosed just as days of heavy rain turned into mist and fog. It was 07:40, 57 degrees with light to moderate winds and heavy clouds expected all day when I found him so wet he couldn’t move. I was hard pressed to locate the wet empty chrysalis well hidden under thick leaves and glad he’d made it far enough to be seen. But with a heavy abdomen and wings not quite smoothly expanded his prospects weren’t good. I bought him in and gave him space to hang, warm up and dry out alone in a clean flight cage. It wasn’t until after dark last night that he started perking up and getting active. And he’s been active this morning. No rain in the forecast today, unfortunately no sun to speak of either, but it should get above 70 degrees. I’m looking forward to seeing him fly off on those freshly pumped up wings as soon as it’s light out.
