Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/12/2018

Number: 5

Woodland edge property with patches of common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) everywhere.
Adult monarchs have been seen in record numbers on this patch (2018). Favored nectar plants include cup plants (Silphium perfoliatum), mountain mint (Pycnanthemum incanum) and various thistle species (Cirsium discolor, C. muticum, C. altissimum). Property was not mown this year and I believe this made a huge difference as far as butterfly species were concerned....Chrysalis/coccoon findings are way up.
