Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/13/2018

Number: 12

Still seeing 12 or more ruby-throated hummers. Females, immature males and juveniles. For a moment today I thought an adult male had arrived. Turned out to be an immature male with a large patch of red throat feathers. It's unusual for us to have this many hummers at this point in the migration. Usually we're down to 4 or 5 birds. They are dividing their time between nectaring from feeders and salvias and firecrackers. They're really putting on weight. One minute no hummers are in sight. The next minute they all come swarming around. Quitting time tonite was 7:43 pm.
