Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/14/2018

Number: 12

We have at least 12 ruby throats fattening up at the nectar feeders and from salvias such as black & blue, Wendy's Wish, Ember's Wish, and Amistad. They also hungrily nectar from several firecrackers. 1 juvenile found a gold mine at a salmon fuchsia. It's possible we had up to 15 or 16 individual hummers today as based on perching behavior at least 3 or 4 left but had to have been replaced by newcomers as the number I count at one time has not decreased. Perhaps Hurricane Florence is keeping the wind out of the south keeping the hummers around longer. The number of hummers still at our yard at this point of immigration is unprecedented. Quitting time was 7:42 p.m. this evening.
