Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2018

Number: 18

My half dozen or so regulars seemed to disappear for a week; I figured they had started migration to the Gulf Coast. This morning I was stunned by an aerial battle of about 18, maybe 20 new birds at my single 10-hole feeder with perches.

In short order they had drained it, so I filled two more 4-bangers and added a pint to the 10-banger.

I expect them to stay the day, there's only one other nabor in a square mile with a feeder- I'm far out in the woods.

After feeding hard for 2 hours they've been playing hard ever since.

I moved hear last year, only 1 nabor, never had a feeder here before. About 15 miles between towns here with at the most 2 house per mile.

Max birds in September 2017 was a dozen, but I had up 4 feeders. Last years birds brought all these new ones on purpose because I'm a HB oasis here and becoming famous with the travelers. I'm dead center of the 15 mile stretch between towns and my place stands out in 15 acres of pasture.

Should have 21 to 30 days before all the travelers pass thru based on 2017.

Will pamper my birds and expect a dozen more next year, maybe a max of 32. They will be hard to estimate with those numbers.
