53 monarchs in medow area next to Ajax water plant by Lake Ontario shoreline. Counted over 1.5 hrs from 5:30PM to 7:00 PM. Sunny, few light clouds, 27C, winds light from the south, 11 km/hr gust up to 17 km/hr. Medow area is approx 100M x 200M with several trails criss crossing it. Followed all the trails for estimated distance of 1.3 km for the count. Tagged 12 (7 females, 5 males).

Numbers down from the peak of 1000s noted on Sept 7th in this area.

Observed 3 pairs that were apparently mating, (paired at abdomen, one upside down other right side up, flying that way then landing and staying in that position). Did not tag these.

Followed a number into trees as sun set but did not find a large roost, only a few scattered monarchs in each tree.
