Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/18/2018

Number: 150

There were Monarchs everywhere. They were in every direction, I even observed a group traveling together, possibly a dozen. The numbers were really uncountable. My estimate of 150 might be a modest number. I have been seeing them in a daily basis in my area, But NEVER did I expect such a mass of them!!!

The area where I saw the density of Monarchs was about a ten mile stretch, in and around the cities of Allegany, NY and Olean, NY. I was driving and slowed down constantly to avoid hitting them. The entire time I was in that area, which is east of where I live, was approximately two and a half hours. I was nowhere near a metropolitan city, but traffic nonetheless. I wonder how many manage to make it safely past all the constant traffic.

What a wonderful sight! I was in Monarch heaven!!!
