Found 6 monarch caterpillars in my garden. 4 of them were on common milkweed and all 4 caterpillars appeared to be in the 2-3 instar stage.
The other 2 appear to be in the last instar stage, were found close to the ground & feeding on young common milkweed.
I have rescued the 2 older caterpillars & I will raise them on my enclosed 3-season porch and release them as butterflies--they have the best advantage of all 6 to be able to make the fall migration before our NE Pennsylvania becomes too cold for survival.
