Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/10/2018

Number: 201

A hike in prairie and some
shrubland and woods edge.
12:30-3:45. Temp.75, partly sunny. Today would be the first
day of the peak here. An estimate of the whole site,
including my total is over 3000. There are more migrating
monarchs this year than ever before. I have been doing butterfly surveys here from
2004 to this year. There were
also many more residents in the
summer than any other year. This is a prairie restoration site, and it is filled with
native flowers. I was not here
on the next three days, 11th,
12th, 13th, but I think there
was over 3000 here each of those days. About 15,000 came
through from Monday to Friday.
