Fifty-two monarchs successfully reared this year, about the same as last year. However this year the monarchs arrived three weeks earlier and nearly all (98%?) the eggs and larvae of this wave died before pupating. By mid-June the next wave of monarchs arrived and the survival rate of eggs and larvae from this group rose to about 50%. The survival rate stayed high into September.
Also, the monarchs that I have been releasing over the past ten days only fly off to the west whereas in the earlier months they would go off in all directions.
