California Tortoiseshell butterfly
I don't know how many, I just know we were surrounded and they were flying all around us. The dogs and I didn't seem to matter which was great and it really was special

They've been seen at the waters edge at a lot of lakes. Some say for nutrients and water. Our ground has a lot of pumice and nutrients.
