During one hour full sun mid-afternoon sitting on the east side of Hamlin Lake, in a marsh, we saw one monarch butterfly heading south, about 30 feet in from the lakehore, flitting low over a marsh of cattails.
Earlier in the day, my husband went for a swim in Lake Michigan. During 1/2 hour of enjoying the beach just south of Ludington State Park, he saw one butterfly, it circled him (he was wearing bright blue and white swim trunks) and then kept heading south.
