Incredible still seeing male Ruby throats with mixed sub adults. This is a very late season for migration. A Rice University scientist this week on KRIV relayed for past 3 years of gradual slow change in envirinment, in that hummongbirds have been in Houston area for 30 days now. As I have seen several staying here still wondering why. It has nothing to do with 'global warming.'
Hamelia pattens one of biggest attracters has bloomed very late comeback from last winters snow. Bougainvillia glabra, and spectabalis, 'Tequila sunrise' are attracting with abundant blossoms very late.
This will be my last weekly report of Ruby throats. It has been a long journey to report with my seeing hummingbirds year round now. Getting up at dawn takes a toll to count them.
Rufous in winter will be my focus, and there has been a totally unexpected sightings of Rufous species over wintering in my garden/Houston now for five years.
I hope JN will always have a report spot in fall months for Rufous.
Sighters/reporters keep up the good work with Reports of Ruby throats coming to your feeders and gardens..
Sincerely
Beverly L
