One of five butterflies I reared this year after finding caterpillars on milkweed in my yard. I placed the butterfly outside on 9/22 after it emerged. On 9/23 I found it on the ground 2 or 3 times and placed it back on the milkweed. There it remained at dark. At dawn on 9/24 it has disappeared.
